These angular folds are in beds of Totoralillo Formation, of Early Cretaceous age. The site is in the canyon Quebrada de Las Penas, which is near Capiapo in Atacama Province, northern Chile. The folded beds consist of silty limestone, with the folds highlighted by erosion of the less-resistant layers. Deformation was due to compression between layers of more-competent sandstones. Atacama Province, Chile. 1961.
